In an age of distraction, silence is a luxury.

Biography of Kevin Doherty (aka SleepResearch_Facility or SR_F) certainly implies that he understands the value of silence:

SleepResearch_Facility explores notions of awareness and perception in the sub/unconscious listener. Focusing primarily on sound bereft of rhythm based energies, SR_Facility’s goal is to provide listening environments wherein the music simply adds texture to the silence. Using form without structure and concentrating on space as opposed to narrative, SRF entertains the idea that music can reside in the very fabric of sound itself, forgoing notions of compositional architecture - noise which draws attention away from itself, leaving room for the listener to focus on other things (or, focus on nothing at all).

Let me repeat one more time:

noise which draws attention away from itself, leaving room for the listener to focus on other things.

Marvelous concept.

For any kind of deep work/study, this album is a must.

Deep Frieze album has 5 tracks, each named after a particular location in Antarctica:

  2. 72ºS 49ºE
